Centenary Celebration!

The Friends received a Community Rail Network grant for a host of much needed tools exhibited here by Dave, Steve and Dan.
Welcome to 2024! Inclement weather has currently kept us away from the Station until March,but with a branchline blockade Network Rail men have been doing extensive cutting back all along the branch line. Hence the trackside appearance is vastly improved.
A volunteer from the Redruth Moseley Clockwork Museum exhibits a layout in the background alongside "Rio".
Full sized traction engine "Rio" stands sentinel in the car park. The old timetable and photographs are a tribute to former station staff Leonard Grose and Robert Lamport.
This celebration and commemoration was placed on the display table to remember Geoff Nicholls and Brian Philpotts, two of our "Friends sadly passed. Their contribution and enthusiasm over the years was invaluable and they are both much missed.
Saturday 26th August 2023. Deputy Mayor, Mark Rowe unveiled a plaque on Members Bench celebrating 30th Anniversary of the Group's station adoption.
Various stalls including The Mission to Seafarers (Falmouth) made interesting attractions for visitors on the Gala day.
A classic coach, well supported, linked the Gala Day at Penmere Station with Penryn Fair Day.

Thursday 24th August Rail Minister Huw Merriman and Steve unveil a plaque celebrating the 160th Anniversary of the branch line and 30 years custodianship of the Station by the Friends.
"Puffer" the mini traction engine alongside a 1940's style London taxi cab. The two attractions created enormous interest.

A big year for us! We are celebrating 30 years of custodianship of the Station.
SATURDAY 26th AUGUST we are holding an OPEN DAY in the closed off car park at Penmere. Lots of attractions so please come along to meet us and enjoy the fun. 10am to 5pm. The station car park will be closed for the day.
May 2023. Early blooms on the Station platform, giving a splash of colour. Because of inclement weather this Spring this is only our third visit this year.
May 2023. The completed board now showing nearly thirty awards. This year we are celebrating our 30th Anniversary of custodianship with a celebration day 26th August 2023 in the Station carpark.

This is our new extra water tank kindly supplied and fitted by GWR. This could be a big boon to us in a possibly dry summer!
July 2021. We lost our Honorary President, one of the founding members Brian Philpotts. We nicknamed him our "magical gardener", as being an ex-Falmouth town gardener made sure that we planted everything in the right place when landscaping the award winning gardens. We will miss him tremendously but his legacy and guidance lives on at the station. RIP Brian.

We're back! Almost three months to the day when we were last at Penmere, we are starting to re-emerge the locomotive and gardens to how they were before. Wednesday 15th July 2020.
These are strange and difficult times for everyone!
At this time of year the "Friends" would normally be well into our gardening and refreshing the station for this year's "RHS" judging. Instead the environs remain fallow and untouched. Hopefully it won't be too long before trimming back Mother Nature can be carried out at the station.Best Wishes to all of our supporters.

Planting "Len's" rose! A bush rose dedicated to Station Booking Clerk Len Grose 1945 to 1968. Planted up by "Friends" Phyllis, Daniel, Steve and John.
This is at the request of Valerie Harris, Len's daughter. A suitably inscribed plaque will follow.
In mid March we had a visit from Kirsty from Plastic Free Falmouth who was very impressed to see recycyle bins on platform supplied by GWR.

Steve Lloyd, Honorary Chairman of "The Friends" receives a certificate, for coming third in The Outstanding Volunteer category in the 2018 Community Awards held in Glasgow. These awards are held annually by the Association of Community Rail Partnerships. Steve was nominated by Richard Burningham, Manager of The Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, after leading the team for 25 years.
